A resident of Radinac, a village on the outskirts of the city of Smederevo, shows the traces of dust on her hand after wiping it on the greenhouse in her garden, just a few hundred metres from the HBIS Smederevo steel plant. The plant was bought by the Chinese company HBIS in April 2016 for 46 million euros. The Serbian Environmental Protection Agency has repeatedly ranked Smederevo as one of the country's most polluted cities, with "excessively polluted air".
